Razor: Joseph Allen & Sons 11/16 near wedge
Brush: Oz Shaving Synthetic
Soap: Cold River Soap Works Colonia Mediterranea
Other: Thirsty Badger lather bowl

A quick Saturday shave. I felt in an aquatic mood so I grabbed this offering from Cold River Soap Works. They describe it as “A Mediterranean epic! Aquatic, solar, salt air. Plunge into the clean, cool, heaven-scent waters of freshness defined.” I can’t pick out any notes but I can say this is fantastic clean and bright aquatic scent. I’d say this sits as my favourite aquatic in the den. Scent strength is mid strong. I find the soap base a bit strange, it almost gets stringy as you load. The lather itself is quite nice, lower structure but very creamy and slick. It took plenty of water. Under hydrating this could definitely cause issues so I was really slow and careful dialling in the water ratio today.

I picked up a straight again today. I really want to work up my comfort level with a straight. I can say that I think I’m going to have to move on from this straight in particular. The near wedge just doesn’t work for me. I find I don’t get the feedback I like during stropping or shaving to feel I know what I’m doing. The other straights I have always do a better job for me. I don’t think the edge is an issue, no tugging and passes the hair test no problem. It just isn’t a fit for me. Too bad because it is a gorgeous brush.

A little clean up with a Gillette Tech and I was good to go for the day. All in all, not a bad shave.
