When Jonathan over at Stonefield Shaving Company announced he was releasing a new soap, I was intrigued.  His Three Six & Charlie line is one of my favourite scents in the den.  Then when I read the scent notes of Leather, Bourbon and Tobacco, I got excited.  And lastly when I found out it was a collaboration with Purely Skinful Handmade Essentials for the base, I knew I had to have it.

This soap is the Purely Skinful tallow base.  For those not familiar, Purely Skinful uses soy wax vs your typical stearic acid as an ingredient in the soap.  Typically I avoid soaps that don’t contain stearic acid, but this base has no such concern.  It is quite a thirsty soap but created a rich, dense and stable lather.  Slickness is very good as is cushion.  Post shave is fantastic.  I really like her soap base(s).   My only small negative on the line is the packaging, I’d really love to see an upgrade to the labeling.  A small thing but I think it would make a huge difference for those, like me, that shop with their eyes.

The scent on this one is mid strong off the puck.  To my nose, leather is the main note I get, darkened by the Tobacco and the Bourbon.  I don’t find it boozy at all, just a nice rich tone to it.  It is a really nice scent.  When I smelled it, my first impression was that it had a similar scent to First Canadian Shave Soap Kink, a little less dirty perhaps.  I quite liked it.

I paired the soap today with Three Six & Charlie.  I found that the Tobacco tied the two together quite well, and heck, I just love this scent.  Pairing Irish Tweed with notes of Coffee, and Pipe Tobacco was a stroke of genius.  If you don’t have this scent in your den you are really missing out.
