Today felt like a Fougere Friday kind of day and luckily this new addition recently hit my den.   I had no experience with Penhaligon’s Sartorial, the fragrance this pays homage to, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  I knew it was a fougere and I’d heard it was along the lines of Brut.  I just love the look of the packaging, specifically the Ox Blood colour scheme so I figured what the heck.  Boy am I glad I did.

PAA describes the Sartorial scent as Fresh, Spicy, Aromatic, Floral, Woody, Metallic and Sweet. I can see how people would smell this and think Brut, but I’d say this is a more sophisticated fougere, a bit more refined.  I saw a comparison I really liked… Brut is like sparkling wine, Sartorial is like champagne.  Brut it a bit more, in-your-face, with Sartorial is a bit softer around the edges.  They play well together, both have things I really like about them, and both are perfect additions to the den.

As I work with the ck6 base more and more, I’m finding two things:  1. light touch on the loading, it doesn’t take much of a soap load and it is VERY easy to overload this soap.  2. it is very thirsty, add more water.  Keep those both in mind and you are rewarded with a fantastic performing soap.  My only knock on this base is that it seems to have a bit more residue than your average soap so it makes cleanup a bit more of a chore.  I typically can just rinse the razor and pat dry but with this soap that would leave a soap film.  Not major, a quick wipe cleans everything right up.  Just something I noticed.

The aftershave is spot on for the scent on this too.  Nice and strong, but not overpowering.  A fantastic finish to a great shave…. all because I liked the colour of the label.  haha.  I also find I really like the green label, an homage to Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, another fougere I’ve yet to try.  I can see another den add in the future.

Happy Fougere Friday everyone!
