We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic

Today I start my Friday by sailing into the mystic, a recent offering from Highland Springs Soap Company. This is a new formula and packaging than the previous Highland Springs product line so I was excited to add a set to the den. I really like that the company has added a few more complex scents to the offerings.

First impressions were nice. Labeling is well done and appear to be waterproof. The soap itself is on the smaller side at 2.5oz. The amount of soap isn’t a problem but the smaller container does make loading a bit of a challenge. I’d really like to see soap companies offer product in wider and shallower containers, but having looked into that myself, I do know that is a challenge.

The scent on this is described as Amber, Patchouli, Rose and Sandalwood blends with Jasmine and Citrus. To me, this reads as sweet. I get the Amber, Rose and Jasmine right up front. The Patchouli and Sandalwood are subtle and to me serve to keep this from smelling floural and sickly sweet. It is a very unique blend. Scent strength is medium which is appropriate, any stronger and the sweetness would be cloying.

I really like this soap base. Once I got past the tricky load from the narrow tub, I was able to easily get a nice glossy lather. It took no effort to get it dialed in. Really nice protection and slickness. I did get a bit of a reaction to the soap, quite subtle, but as a result I’m not too sure on the post shave on this one. I followed up with the splash, a witch hazel based aftershave. It felt slightly tacky on the hands but felt really nice on the skin, no burn and no reaction. Scent strength was dialed up from the soap, its right on the edge of being too much given the sweetness. I can say when I said goodbye to the wife this morning, I got the big compliment of approval.

All in all, a nice shave. I did receive a sample of Highland Springs Kootenay Breeze that smells fantastic. Given how much I liked the base, I am really looking forward to that being released so I can pick it up. Have a great day all!
