No lie, First Line Shave 3.0 base has vaulted right up top with some of my favourite soap bases. The more I use it, the more I love it. It scores high on all the standard shave metrics of cushion, slickness and post-shave. That is great but what really makes this base special is how easy it is to load and lather to find the sweet spot for performance. Of the new elite bases released, I say this stands alone on that front, for me anyways.
With that in mind, I was on a quest to add some more FLS to the den. I already had 2 (Dapper Man being in the 3.0 base) but had to add some more. Here is the big downside to me with FLS, they don’t have any vendors here in Canada. That does make it an expensive proposition for us Canadians. However, the want was high and so I lived by the age old adage…. “Treat Yo Self”.
I added 3 sets from FLS in the 3.0 base: Star Odyssey, Razor Ruby Undead and this offering, the original Razor Ruby. All are based on fantastic fragrances, smell great and are plenty potent. This particular scent intrigued me the most off the puck. I have heard others mention that FLS has a bit of a base smell to it and for the first time I can tell what they mean. This does have a bit of a strange undertone to it but it went away as soon as a brush hit it. I get sweet, citrus and green over top of a robust patchouli. Notes are: Green notes, Bergamot, Neroli, Nutmeg, Cardamon, Pink Pepper, Jasmine, Vetiver, Patchouli, Woodsy notes and Amber. I’ve heard it described as floral and while I see why people say it, I don’t agree. I read it more as a sweet green scent up front. Jasmine and the Green notes pop the most for me and the dry down really brings out the patchouli. Not a scent for everyone but I really enjoyed it. It for sure stands alone scent wise in the den.
A quick 3 passes today and finished up with the splash. This particular splash has a bit more scent restraint than the other FLS splashes I have but it is still plenty strong. Performance was really nice as the skin felt nice and hydrated in the post.
Fantastic shave, no complains. All for now – J
