Razor: Joseph Allen & Sons 11/16 near wedge with custom rams horn scales (ala Jason Underwood)
Brush: Rubberset with cashmere synthetic
Soap: Purely Skinful Handmade Essentials Smooth Operator
Other: Thirsty Badger Lather Bowl

#samplesaturday and today I grabbed a sample from my recent purchase of Purely Skinful Handmade Essentials… Smooth Operator. I’ve been looking forward to using this deer tallow soap ever since I smelled it. Espresso, Bourbon, Heavy Cream and Warm Vanilla. It smells fantastic.

For the shave today I gave another go with the straight. Not my best work, I’m rusty and I wasn’t very good when I was in practise. I obviously need to commit some more time.

The soap itself, man is it thirsty. The hard sample was a bit tricky to figure out how to load. I opted to bloom it face down in a bit if water in my lather bowl. After a shower I applied it like a shave stick rubbing on the face. Then I wet the brush and went to work. I was able to work enough lather for many passes, I just kept adding water and it kept getting slicker. I had a tough time even holding the brush.

After stumbling with the straight for a while I ended up just grabbing a de and cleaning up. Even after several passes I felt no irritation, a big win for the soap. Not my best shave but I sure came out smelling like a boss.

All for now -J
