Razor: George Wostenholm & Sons Celebrated 6/8 Near Wedge
Brush: Oz Shaving Synthetic
Soap: Wild West Shaving Co. Black Sails
Other: Thirsty Badger Lather Bowl

The last of my Free Shipping Tuesday straight razors has arrived.  I saw this 6/8 near wedge pop up and I pounced.  I’m still learning the straights but this one just called my name.  It got a fresh edge and made it’s way to my den.  Very impressed with the edge on this beauty, it was nice and smooth.   The razor could handle some new scales, so that will be another project I think I’m just about ready to take on.

For the soap today, I used another offering from the Wild West Shaving lot I picked up.  Black Sails is a play on a bay rum.  This is a dark, smokey and slightly spicy bay rum.    It has notes of smokey mahogany, clove, tobacco, teak, spiced rum and bergamot.  I normally don’t like clove but in this scent, it just worked.  I get that dark and rich scent of the mahogany and teak.  Then the smokey tobacco with just the right touch of spiced rum.  I really enjoyed the scent.  I’d say it is on the stronger side of medium.

I scraped a bit of the soap into my lather bowl (I normally puck load but not an option with this soap) and went to lathering.  A bit of water and some work and I got a really creamy glossy lather.  I’d say it was on the lower volume side but not airy at all.  Cushion was very good as was slickness (lathered and residual).  No issues with the razor gliding across the face.  A quick to passes and I was nice and smooth.  Not BBS, but more than sufficient for the weekend.  I’d say the post shave was about average for me today.  I’d say it was a touch on the dryer side, so I just finished up with a touch of whatever unscented balm that was at arms reach in the den.

A great shave to start the weekend.
