Brush: Paragon Synthetic
Soap: Tallow + Steel Sicily
Aftershave: Tallow + Steel Sicily splash
Up today is a new acquisition to the den, Tallow + Steel Sicily. This is a fairly new release from the Winnipeg based artisan. The formula has undergone a bit of a change recently so I was excited to give it a go.
The price-point on T&S products are a bit on the higher side but with good reason. They are focused on high quality ingredients , sourcing essential oils from around the globe, using grass fed, no antibiotics or hormones, pasture raised sources of Tallow — which they render in house. You can tell that really care about what goes inside the packaging. And speaking of packaging, they make sure what is on the outside matches what is inside. Labels are gorgeous with not only scent notes listed but also a percentage of that note. It is a really nice touch. And to add to the fantastic product they also add in a healthy dose of Karma by donating back to charities in locations they have sourced the essential oils.
The product itself is quite nice. Scent strength for me on this one is mid to mild. This one is very citrus forward, the notes of blood orange, bergamot, and lemon all pop. As you lather you can start to pick out the subtle lavender and rosemary notes. The soap itself loaded and lathered quite easily. I didn’t get the huge dense lather I love but I feel like I just need to dial in the water content a bit better for that. Given this was my first go with this formula I’m sure I will get even better lather as I dial in. Slickness, cushion, post-shave were all quite good, no complaints there. I followed up with the matching splash. I found the scent strength to bit a bit lower than I would have preferred but this alcohol free/witch hazel based splash is full of skin food. No burn and a really great skin feel to wrap up the shave.
