A day late on this one.  Today felt like a fougere kind of day so I opted for my MDC Fougere.  I love fougere scents and MDC for me is the one that sets the bar.  It has that perfect blend of green notes with a subtle floral and spiciness to it.

MDC is a bit of a polarising brand given it’s high price point.  A 200g tub will set you back about around $100 Canadian.  That seems a lot for a tub of soap, especially considering the soap base is kind of, well, basic.  This is a pretty basic vegan base.  The big difference is how they mill it and cure it, making a super dense and hard packed soap.  If you are comparing this against a $25 4oz tub of soap it definitely seems very expensive.

Now factor in this soap’s density and that it comes in with 6oz+ packed in.  If you were to use this soap and the 4oz soft soap every day you are going to find this soap will last you significantly longer, probably 4-6 times as long depending how you load.  So if you break the price down on a cost per shave, this price point holds up.  Perfuming wise, MDC does a fantastic job making great scents and stick around for a while.  As I said, this is the fougere scent that sets the bar for me.  The only thing this falls down on is the base doesn’t perform up to what you would expect at that price point.  This base will give you a decent shave but there are many better bases out this.  It is kind of average performing, and for me personally, I wouldn’t skip a post shave of some sorts.  It can dry you out a bit.

Having said all that, I love this soap and it is one that will never leave my den.  Scent is one of my favourites and I have 0 issues getting a quick and easy load/lather.  I had a great shave today.  If MDC only had a matching splash I would be in heaven.  Luckily I have enough fougere scents I can almost always pull something that is in the wheelhouse.  Today I opted for a vintage fougere by using my old school Faberge Brut.  This pairs well with a similar vibe and hits some of the same high points.    A great finish to a great shave.
