Soap: Martin de Candre Agrumes
Aftershave: Fine Accoutrements Italian Citrus

Today felt like a citrus kind of day. That definitely isn’t a normal occurrence for me but for some reason I grabbed this MDC out the den this AM. For those that haven’t tried MDC, it is a treat. This triple milled vegan soap isn’t the easiest on the pocket book, but it does give you great value. This large sized tub will last you much longer than most of the tradition 4oz tubs from other artisans. It is super easy to load/lather and you will require very little to get a bounty of thick/dense lather. I’ve used my MDC Fougere several times and you can’t even tell it has been used.

Scent on the MDC Agrumes is full on citrus. I get notes of sweet lemon, bergamot and grapefruit. Scent strength is medium. Not a scent I would gravitate to but if you are a citrus fan this would be a welcome addition for you. Lather had lots of cushion, nice and slick. Post shave was OK, but I wouldn’t skip a post shave product.

I recently acquired some of these Derby Platinum blades. Derby was one of the first blades I ever used and I find them OK, nothing great, nothing horrible…. perfectly adequate. These are promoted as being their high end version (at twice the price point). After a few uses I can say they are nice blades, nicer than the OG Derby blades, but I wouldn’t put them in the class with some of my favourites. I was able to get a nice smooth shave. If you find them at a good price, they are worth giving a try.

For the post, I grabbed one of the few citrus post shave products I own, Fine Accoutrements Italian Citrus. This straight forward, alcohol based aftershave has nice scent strength and a good dose of burn. The scent on this one is Acqua di Parma Colonia, a real classic. It smells fantastic, but typical of citrus, it won’t follow you for long.
