Today on the Canadian Wet Shavers Facebook group, someone started a bit of a game where the next person up will post a SOTD using one or more product from the previous person’s shave. I thought it was an interesting idea to know only see what stuff members have in common but what other things we might choose to pair up for the shave. The first in the series by Devon, using Karve CB on C, Paragon boar brush, Windhorse Pottery Scuttle and Like Grandpa Wild Rose soap. I called next up. I have a few options here as I had all but the Windhorse Scuttle.

I opted to use the Wild Rose soap from Devon’s shave. I chose it for a few reasons. 1. it is a limited edition soap that doesnt get a lot of recognition. Base is quite good and I always get great performance with it. 2. Like Grandpa does’t have a matching splash/balm so I thought I would share one of the options I go with on that front 3. The scent is fantastic, one of my favourites. Not the typical rose scent. I’m a big fan.

I didn’t have a Windhorse Scuttle but what I do have was my new Thirsty Badger scuttle. We have been playing with a few designs on that front and I’m testing out what I think would be a final design should we continue with them. They are definitely more of a challenge to make so I’m unsure if we would add them to regular rotation. Would there be demand? Thoughts? It sure was nice having a warm lather experience today. And the Copper Hat brush, along with being stunning, whipped up a great lather in this thing.

Razor wise, after I took the photo and went for the shave, the straight razor was really calling me so I opted to start with it. I really like this Sheffield straight and I’m getting better with it (or so I thought). First pass was fantastic. Nice and smooth, so I started a pass number two. Not so fast rookie…. a nice little gash to remind me to slow down. Better safe than sorry so I finished pass 2 and 3 with the Rockwell.

For the post shave I used Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Briar aftershave splash. This scent is very unique in my den and I really dig it. It has a rose note so it tied well into the Wild Rose soap. Full scent notes are Tobacco, Musk, Oak, Vanilla, Labdanum, Leaves, Rose. Slightly floral, slightly sweet, slightly earth with a nice round Tobacco. A very nice finish to the shave.

So there is my SOTD, look forward to seeing what is up next.
