Brush: Rubberset with cashmere synthetic knot
Soap: Wild West Shaving Rose Dunn
Aftershave: Wild West Shaving Rose Dunn

The current free shipping Tuesday promotion from Canadapost has been very good to me. I’ve been able to swap some different items with a few fellow wet shavers and have an abundance of new things to try. Wild West Shaving has been on my radar for a while. The branding is up my alley and the variety of scents really jump out at me. When I saw this Rose Dunn set up for trade I jumped at the chance to add it to my den.

Wild Rose, Coconut, Amber are the scent notes. Off the puck, I was surprised, it isn’t what I was thinking when I read the notes. It has a tobacco type vibe to it to my nose. It is a really nice blend that works well and scent strength to me is mid-strong, I’m a big fan. I’m not a fan of the packaging, I know what they were going for with the tobacco tin style, but it sure makes for a mess trying to load from a small plastic container. I ended up with quite the mess and it took a bit of effort to get the water dialed in with the load. Once there, I did get a really good lather and found the performance quite good. I also like having the lower price point with 2oz pucks as it makes it more affordable to try more scents. If they would package in a wider container, this would be a huge win for me. A quick three passes with the Mellon (man I love this razor) resulted in a close comfortable shave.

I followed with the matching splash, or spray in this case. I found the scent to be a bit simple compared to the soap, it didn’t have as much complexity to my nose. I also got a fair bit of irritation from the spray, so I’m hoping I don’t have an allergy to something. It wasn’t a typical alcohol burn I get (and this is alcohol based). I’ll give it another go and see if it was a one off or if I have an issue here. As such I cant really rate the performance on this guy.

All in all, I really liked the soap base/scent and am happy to have this in the den. Fingers crossed the aftershave irritation was a one off as I’d hate to have to move on from this wonderful scent.
